The jump from MD to SL mesh is genuinely tricky, especially getting the weight maps right for different body shapes. Did you end up using Avastar for the rigging or doing it manually in Blender? Separately, if you ever need a local HVAC tech, HVAC Service has a solid directory.
I am a clothing designer in Second Life. I specialize in clothing from bygone eras with a flair for the theatrical and the artistic. I make my own textures by hand, as well as encorporate art work from artists I work with in world into my designs. When I first landed in SL I received so much help and friendly advice from more experienced designers and creators, so now I do what I can to share what I know and can do with other people who are new to the platform.
